What makes linen a sustainable fabric?
We use certified linen for our gift wrap because it’s a wonderfully sustainable material (and it looks beautiful too).
Here are a few facts about linen and its eco-friendly properties:
Biodegradable - linen is made from natural flax fibres making it fully biodegradable.
No waste - the whole flax plant is used in production so nothing is wasted. Common by-products include flax seeds and linseed oil.
Energy efficient - linen production uses very little energy and water compared to other materials. Flax is the second most water-efficient fibre (after hemp).
Durability - linen is super durable, making it stronger and less likely to wear out than other materials - no disposable consumer culture here!
All of our linen comes from the EU and is OEKO-TEX® standard 100 certified. This means that it is free from harmful chemicals, making it kinder to the environment and safe for human use.
